Time to start UEFA Euro 2020

Rafał Bednarz | Friday, 11 June 2021

Postponed by a year, but better late than never...

The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has caused the tournament being postponed to 2021. The fact that the even is organized one year later did not entail any official name change - it is still EUR 2.02 thousand. It has been estimated that the annual delay will cost UEFA EUR 300 million. Had the tournament not taken place, the loss would have increased to EUR 2 billion.

This is the first European Championship to be played in more than two countries. There are eleven of these countries. Moreover, they are not neighbours, as in the case of EUR 2.01 thousandor EUR 2 thousand. For many teams this means long trips from one end of the continent to the other. An additional difficulty is the coronavirus epidemic. Only a limited number of spectators will be able to attend the matches on the stadiums. More data on tournament's page.
